Let me start by welcoming the newest member of the league, Morgan (Cant be that hard). I added him in an effort to make this league full of people I actually know. Please make him feel welcome, and promptly show him how hard it can be.
(I'll wait to let you make jokes.)
Now on to league business.
First, I have talked with several other members of the league about having a draft party to start the season. Since the members of this league are pretty spread out, it would be nice to have at least one time of the year where we get together and talk trash.
We would still do the draft on computers like we did last year, but would be able to make fun of picks in person rather than web cam. And if you can't be there, you can still draft on the computer and we can still web cam you in. Ah, technology.
We have to decide on two things:
- When: It would need to be sometime in August since the NFL season starts the first week of September. We want to have our teams set well before that, but I also don't want to do it too early in case someone gets injured in the preseason games (*cough* Eve *cough*).
Let me know what weekends absolutely do not work for you, either in the comments or by email as soon as possible. Then we will throw out some potential dates and go from there. - Where: Like I said, we're all spread out so we have some options here. Jeremy and Katie offered up their place in Raleigh/Durham. Courtney and I would be glad to host it in Charlotte. It just comes down to where people would rather be. If you have strong opinions, let me know. Otherwise we'll put it up to a vote.
Second, we talked last year about changing the roster spots because of the large number of teams. We couldn't actually go through the change last year because it was the middle of the season, but we should be able to this year.
For those that don't remember/weren't here, the proposal was to get rid of one of the running back slots and replace it with a running back/tight end/wide receiver slot. There's just no way 14 teams can get two good running backs each plus have a backup for a bye week. This flex spot gives you the option to replace a running back with a TE or WR, which are easier to find. But if you have two good RBs, you can use both.
Please vote in the poll on the right side of this page ASAP to let me know what you think. If you have another suggestion, I welcome it.
Finally, Andy found this. Yes, a fantasy football championship belt. It's $74, but if we split the cost it wouldn't be that bad. Thoughts?
If not that, does anyone have an idea for a league trophy? I think we need something (preferably ridiculous looking) to pass around to the champion. Keep thinking about that and let me know if you have ideas.
That's it for now. Hope everyone is having a good start to summer!

I am down to do a draft party. I would prefer to do it later in August (we have 50+ move ins in the first 15 days of August so I'll be crazy until after those are set). So ideally...the weekends later in the month are better especially if it is in Charlotte. If it is in Raleigh or closer to Chapel Hill I can make it work regardless. Can't wait for this season!
ReplyDeleteI can't do the last weekend in August. I will be on vacation. Any other weekend in August works for me.
ReplyDeleteAs far as I know any weekend in August works for me. Charlotte is closer for me, but I have no qualms about going to CH.
ReplyDeleteAs for the belt...I think it's a cool idea, and we could get a little side panel for it to have engraved/written on each year with the winner's team name.
That last comment was from Dave Steele. I used my google credentials so IDK why it didn't post my name
ReplyDeleteThe system doesn't like you, apparently!
ReplyDeleteThanks for chiming in, David!
