The 2014 Royale with Cheese draft: A recap

Note: Please be sure to check your email this week for important information about prizes. Thanks.

Before we talk about the 2014 Royale with Cheese draft, let me tell you a story.

A friend had his fantasy draft this week. He had the first pick in the draft and had been agonizing over the pick for weeks. Peyton Manning? Marshawn Lynch? Running back? Quarterback?

I was with him when the draft happened. He had planned on leaving the bar early to go home and draft, but when I told him that he could use his phone, he stayed around. He'd settled on Manning, the guy that led his team last season.

As the draft was getting ready to start, he was adding players to his queue for later picks. Suddenly, he blurted out "F***!!!" What happened? He accidentally drafted Matthew Stafford when trying to add him to his queue for later. It was done.

Moral of the story: The draft may not have gone how you wanted, but at least you didn't pick the Detroit Lions quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick.

Thank you to everyone who came to the draft party in Charlotte. We had a blast and hope you did, too. And I'm glad that all of you will get my "Pitch Perfect" references this season.

I hate that everyone else couldn't make it, but if I remember correctly everyone logged on to pick at least part of their team live, which is awesome.

Here are the highlights of the draft:

  • First overall pick: Seattle RB Marshawn Lynch by Something.
  • Last pick (aka Mr. Irrelevant): Philadelphia Eagles defense by Cant Be That Hard.
  • First QB taken: Denver's Peyton Manning, No. 2 overall by Blaupunkt.
  • First TE taken: New Orleans' Jimmy Graham, No. 8 by Off Constantly.
  • First WR taken: Detroit's Calvin Johnson, No. 15 by Cant Be That Hard.
  • First defense taken: Seattle Seahawks, No. 69 by Jeff Fisher's Mullet (changing up the D strategy this season).
  • First K taken: Buffalo's Dan Carpenter, No. 85 by Something.
  • Rounds it took for Something to realize that, no, his draft client wasn't broken, but he had two picks in a row and that he was autopicking the second one: Too many, but probably some time after he drafted his kicker.
  • Sap that drafted Chris Johnson (CJ2K!!): Cant Be That Hard.
  • Team that drafted this guy:

           Big Poppa.

  • Team that drafted 4 quarterbacks, one who is out for the season and another who will start the season a backup: Jeff Fisher's Mullet.

It should be noted that I found this Vine on a Denver Post story about who will replace Bradford. One suggestion? Tim Tebow. Jeff Fisher, man.

So how is everyone feeling about the draft? To the Twitter!

lucky, strong and overconfident

Such optimism here. That's what I like to see.

Finally, we're going to close out the draft post with the first installment of TWEET(s) OF THE WEEK!

Remember when I introduced the newest league member, Off Constantly, thanked him for the ready-made joke and wrote "It's going to be a good year for the blog posts"?

This is why:

I'm now hoping another team has an undefeated season and NO ONE beats Off Constantly

There are plenty of fun things to do besides beating Off Constantly
Well, we know Can't be that Hard probably isn't up to the task of beating Off Constantly

It's going to be a good year.

Remember: Look for something from me in your email this week. Also, feel free to start adding, dropping and setting your lineup. The season starts next week!

Wishing you large stacks of cash that you can hold like a phone,

Corey
